Waterproof Soft Coolers FAQ's

Some FAQs that we get asked all the time about our Soft Side Cooler Bags & Backpacks...

How much ice do I need inside my cooler?

We recommend 1/3 of the cooler bags or backpacks are filled with ice on top of the drinks to ensure the contents stay cold for 24+ hours.

Cold air will always fall so is also why recommend placing ice or freezer blocks on the top of drinks.

How long will the coolers retain ice for?

Thanks to an innovative dual layer foam core, the OverBoard soft coolers are able to insulate the contents of your bag for 24+ hours. The air valve also enhances the insulation capabilities and can easily add extra air once filled up with drinks, food and ice.

Find below some hints and tips to help you get the best out of your our waterproof cooler bags or backpacks.

  • Store your cooler in the shade or a cool place when possible.
  • Chilling or even freezing your drinks before loading into your cooler.
  • For best results, we recommend using at least 1/3 Ice to 2/3 drinks. However, the more ice the better, and should try and fill any air space with ice if weight is not an issue.
  • Do not empty the melted cold water as this will be a very similar temperature to the ice, and therefore will assist with keeping the contents cold.
  • Pack the ice last into your cooler. Cold air will travel downwards, so load your drinks first and then pack the ice on top.
  • Ensure your cooler is sealed properly when not in use.
  • Try and open and close the cooler as quickly as possible, as the more it is open the more warm air will be able to penetrate the contents.

How do you seal the Cooler Bags and Backpacks?

All our soft cooler bags and backpacks use a simple roll-top sealing system making them 100% watertight. This also means there are no zips to jam or break, and allows easy access to the contents.

Find below a simple guide demonstrating how to correctly seal the coolers...

Roll the neck of the cooler bag tightly 2-3 times purging some air if required.

Connect the clips at the top of the cooler bag to securely fasten and create the waterproof and insulating seal.

How waterproof are the Cooler bags and backpacks?

When correctly sealed all our coolers will float even when fully loaded, and are also suitable for quick submersion. Find below the official Ingress Protection rating for both.

Note: If taking your cooler bag or backpack into the water, please ensure to firmly close the Air Valve to prevent any water entering into the insulation chamber.

What is the air valve used for?

The Air Valve allows you to purge any excess air stored between the 2 insulating layers making it much easier to pack away after use. It also enhances the insulation capabilities of the soft coolers as can easily add extra air once filled up with drinks, food and ice.

Notes:

  • Please be careful not to over fill your cooler with air as this will affect insulation as well as eat into the final capacity and how much you will be able to store inside your cooler bag or backpack.
  • If taking your Dry Ice Cooler™ into the water, please ensure to firmly close the Air Valve to prevent any water entering into the insulation chamber.

What material is used for the Cooler Bags & Backpacks?

All our cooler bags and backpacks use a high-grade PVC tarpaulin making them hard-wearing, super tough and easy to clean. Also thanks to the HF welded construction, they are 100% waterproof too.

What will fit inside each of the Cooler Bags & Backpacks?

Find below a comparison guide showing how many 330ml cans will fit inside each size cooler bag and backpack. We also recommend 1/3 of the cooler is filled with ice on top of the drinks to ensure the contents stay cold for 24+ hours.
